Chancellor’s Receptions for New Cal Undergraduate Students

Welcome to Cal!

Chancellor Robert and Mary Catherine Birgeneau welcome new undergraduate students at a series of receptions taking place at University House,
4–5:30 p.m. on August 26, 27, 28, 2008.

Students should attend their receptions as follows:

Residents of Clark Kerr and Unit 2: Tuesday, August 26
Residents of Unit 4 (includes Foothill, Stern, and Bowles Hall), International House, Channing/Bowditch apartments and off-campus residents: Wednesday, August 27
Residents of Unit 1 (includes Slottman Hall and Christian Hall) and Unit 3 (includes Wada Hall and Towle Hall): Thursday, August 28

Invitations to the New Student Receptions will be mailed in Summer 2008.

Note: Business casual attire

Find University House on the interactive campus map. On the day of the event, look for the blue & gold balloons!

Transportation (Downtown shuttle lines)

If you opt to take the shuttle, the closest stop to University House is Tolman Hall (the second closest is Evans Hall). From Tolman Hall, walk up the south side of the building straight up to University House. (From Evans Hall, walk west past Memorial Glade and Moffitt Library until you see the blue and gold balloons at University House Drive.) Consult the shuttle schedule:

H Line (get off at Evans Hall)
R Line (get off at Tolman Hall)
P Line (get off at Tolman Hall)
RFS Line (get off at Evans Hall)

FAQ

What is business casual attire?

This event is a daytime outdoor party at the home of the Chancellor. We recommend the following.

For men: Khaki pants or trousers with a collared shirt. Please no sweats or cut-offs.
For women: Khaki pants, trousers, capris, sundresses or skirts. Please no sweats, or cut offs.

The grass-covered garden at University House is not level, so please wear appropriate shoes.

May I bring a guest?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any additional guests.

What if I cannot attend the reception date assigned to me?

You would probably enjoy attending with your residence hall; however, you are welcome to attend one of the other receptions.
